ADDING VALUE TO THE TEAM: MEET DEBBIE MORTON

Debbie, also a Brookhaven resident, joined Kelly Marsh & Associates this year. Kelly & her team feel so lucky to have Debbie – her extensive experience in real estate and property valuation is a huge asset to the team. Debbie essentially grew up in real estate, working in the family business even at the young age of 12, helping out around the office and absorbing all things real estate. She obtained her license in 1990 and began selling homes. Debbie graduated from Rutgers University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in accounting. She spent the next several years in an accounting position at Ernst & Young, and later at GE Capital Mortgage Services. Debbie excelled in the field of accounting but always yearned to make her way back to real estate. After receiving an MBA with Real Estate and Finance concentrations from The University of Georgia, she spent almost 14 years in Property Valuation where she helped clients reduce their property tax burden by performing real estate valuations and presenting and negotiating at all levels of appeal, including testifying in Superior Court.

Debbie has “3” boys: James, 10; Jacob, 8; and rescue dog Roadie, 4ish. The wonderful schools in the area and the convenience of Brookhaven is what initially drew Debbie to the area but the sense of community is what made her want to live there. She loved being able to walk her boys to school – Montgomery Elementary is a true neighborhood elementary school. Debbie was so appreciative of all the help and support that the Montgomery Elementary teachers, administration, and parents gave her during her son’s dyslexia diagnosis. She was taken aback at how open complete strangers were to share their journey and how the teachers and administration at the school went out of their way to help with the decision to get specialized help. Her boys are now at The Swift School, but she looks forward to returning to Montgomery in a few years. The boys miss their friends and teachers at Montgomery, but thankfully they get to see their friends at the Byrnwyck pool and at neighborhood events over the summer.

Earlier this year, Debbie decided to put her years of real estate analysis to work and join a team. She joined Kelly Marsh & Associates as a Listing Specialist to help others realize their dreams. Debbie wanted to give to people what she was giving to clients for years – unrivaled customer service. She looked for a team with the same values and priorities as she held: a strong work ethic and a passion for community commitment. Kelly’s unstoppable drive, work ethic, and commitment to the community is what drew Debbie to the team. She has found her way back to her roots and is looking forward to flourishing in a great team environment where, as she says, she can “learn as much as possible from the Queen of Brookhaven”. In fact, our clients are already raving about Debbie!

Debbie and her boys can often be seen playing whiffle ball, flag football, or triple threat slip-n-slide in the front yard. The family loves when the neighborhood kids join in for a game or two. The boys and their friends tested the entrepreneurial waters by selling bracelets and water in the front yard – no doubt following in their mother’s footsteps. She can’t picture living in another area although she is constantly thinking about remodeling the house. It’s that builder background always at work!

Debbie has had her license since 1990 and grew up in a Real Estate Family business. She has a MBA from University of Georgia with Real Estate and Finance concentrations. She spent over 13 years in Property Valuation.
